Chief Warden, Deputy Chief Warden and Communications Officer Training

This course is designed to provide suitable and adequate information, training and instruction to persons appointed to the role of Chief Warden, Deputy Chief Warden and Communications Officer within an Emergency Control Organisation.

Course Duration:           Up to 2 Hours
Participant Numbers:   Max. 20 Persons

Training Topics for Chief Warden, Deputy Chief Warden and Communications Officer

  • Their roles and responsibilities within the emergency plan
  • Duties of the EPC
  • Duties of the ERT, where it exist, as described in the emergency response procedures
  • Decision making, command and control
  • Record keeping
  • Actions for specific emergencies contained in the emergency response procedures
  • Coordination of communications during emergencies including use of any installed specialised communication equipment
  • Liaison with emergency services
  • Coordination of evacuation activities
  • Implementation of post-emergency activities in accordance with the emergency plan

Selection Criteria for Chief Warden and Deputy Chief Warden

The person appointed to Chief Warden and Deputy Chief Warden should:

  • Be capable of performing their duties
  • Be capable of leading and taking command
  • Display effective decision making skills
  • Demonstrate the capability to remain calm under pressure
  • Be available to undertake their appointed duties
  • Be capable of effectively communicating with occupants and visitors
  • Be familiar with the facility
  • Be able to undergo relevant training

Selection Criteria for Communications Officer

The person appointed to Communications Officer should:

  • Be capable to perform their duties
  • Have leadership qualities and the ability to command authority
  • Display effective decision making skills
  • Demonstrate the capability to remain calm under pressure
  • Be available on-site to undertake their appointed duties
  • Be capable of effectively communicating with occupants and visitors
  • Be capable of deputizing for other positions on the ECO
  • Be able to undergo relevant training
